Daily Dose of Dr Marry and DD week 1 recap

Earlier this week, Dr Marry and I took a two-day, online course from Heroic Public Speaking; it was an excellent training, and we both finished thinking about a number of new things to try out.

One thing we were inspired to do was to create a quick, daily livestream around alcoholism, sobriety and/or blessings.

So every weekday morning at 8:30am, Dr Marry and I will go live with a “Daily Dose of Dr Marry & DD” on my public Facebook page for no more than 15 minutes all around one focused idea. They are a quick, mindful way to start your day with tips, ways to reframe your thinking or an important idea to consider.

Our hope is that by focusing on one idea around these topics, we might inspire others struggling on this path to have an “ah ha!” moment for themselves.

And then every Saturday morning, we’ll recap the week’s videos in case you missed any or want to go back and listen again.

For the next few weeks, we’ll compile and post the week’s videos for anyone to find them, but after that, we’ll only email that out. So I have three requests for you:

  1. If you want to receive this weekly recap (I’ll never share your email or send you relentless messages, I promise!), email me, and I’ll add you to the list.
  2. Do you have topics around addiction, sobriety and/or blessings you’re curious about that you’d like us to address? We’ll never reveal any personal information about you anywhere, but we know that if you’re wondering about it, others likely are, too. Send us an email, and we’ll add your topic to the list.
  3. Do you have people in your life, either those struggling with addiction or those who love an addict, who could benefit from hearing these conversations? Share the content and then invite them to email me to get signed up to receive them, too.

In short, please email me. 😄

Here’s our first week’s posts. Hope you find some useful nuggets. And remember, if you’re serious about getting help, consider attending a local AA or Al Anon group. There are literally hundreds of them throughout the world, and they are an amazing first step for many–they’ve done (and continue to do) wonders for Dr Marry.

Good luck—Dr Marry and I are cheering you on from Fargo! We know just how hopeless you feel. We were absolutely there, and we saw no light at the end of the tunnel…until there was. And then we slowly clawed our way back together. It can be done. We’re living proof, and you can be, too!

Dayna! I love this ❤️ When covid-19 hit, March 13 is when we went all remote (two teenage boys included in remote learning and working). My husband and I quit drinking. Weekends we used to drink with friends etc. Many of our friends have stopped inviting us out or over (as restrictions were lifted– we live in NH) because we don’t really drink anymore. We did not even say anything about stopping drinking, but they noticed we did not have a drink. Friendships have changed. I have not watched all of your blogs yet, and I am sure you address it, but it’s interesting. We feel a little shamed and sometimes sad because we chose to redirect our focus. Thanks for putting yourselves out there.

Flossie–I’m so sorry to read this! Years ago, before I even knew Mazz, I heard someone say that the only drinkers who shame those who aren’t drinking are the ones who secretly fear they might be drinking too much. As we have so often discussed in Daily Dose and other places, Mazz and I have felt very little “shame” around this, but we definitely have a few friends who are kind of uncomfortable around him now. I think it’s because the identity they had was to drink whiskey together and that is over, so what’s left. Here’s to meeting the people who are interested in you, regardless of what you are holding in your hands! Thanks for watching/reading. We’re on today for our 46th Daily Dose at 8:30 central. Or you can sign up to get the Saturday recap newsletter at https://extraordinaryextraordinary.com/contact/.

Take care Flossie, be well and stay in touch!
